Having graduated from Hull University in 1984 I began my career in accountancy with Hodgson Harris, now part of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1989.

By the spring of 1990 I had decided that my professional interests lay predominately outside of the large corporate work offered by a “Top Ten” firm and accepted a position as an audit/accounts manager with Pickles Waltham chartered accountants in Goole. In 1992 having gained a thorough grounding in dealing with small and medium sized business I accepted the position as partner designate with Sowerby and Rushforth and was ultimately appointed as partner in 1997 specialising in the audit, accountancy and taxation of small and medium sized enterprises.

Outside of work I am married with two children and when I am not working in my second career as "dad’s taxi" I enjoy rugby league and am a season pass holder at Hull FC.

I qualified with a local firm in 1994 and became a partner in 1996 when we joined BDO Stoy Hayward. During that time I gained a wealth of experience helping owner managed enterprises to grow and develop their business. In 2002 we became an independent local firm again.

I have over 20 year experience helping family businesses develop and offering business advisory, accountancy and taxation services to all types of business with particular specialities in retail catering and  the medical profession.

I am a keen golfer when the time pressures of a young family and work allow.

Upon leaving school I joined a local engineering company for a short period of work experience before deciding that accountancy would be a more rewarding career. I therefore joined the long established Hull firm of Sowerby and Rushforth as a trainee. I progressed through my training contract and passed my professional exams becoming a fully qualified chartered accountant in 1973.

I was appointed a partner in the practice in 1979.

I now have more years’ experience than I care to remember and in addition to acting for the wide variety of clients which would be expected of a partner in general practice. I also have specialist portfolios of barristers and medical professionals.

Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my family and I am currently riding the rollercoaster that comes with being a season ticket holder at Hull City.

I became a chartered tax adviser in June 2000 after spending a number of years in the profession advising clients on general taxation issues. I enjoy supporting my local football team, Hull City, and I also enjoy anything to do with cars.

I joined the firm in 1990. I have over 25 years experience in practice. I enjoy watching cricket and going to the gym. I also have a keen interest in researching Family History.
